Enabling Mobile Proximity Commerce

Proxama PLC (AIM: PROX) is an International mobile proximity commerce and payment solutions company.

Proxama provides end to end digital solutions to banks and card issuers to securely transition their card portfolio onto mobile for Near Field Communication (NFC) contactless payments as well as solutions for EMV enablement, Electronic PIN Delivery, tokenisation and card issuance management.

Proxama’s award-winning mobile proximity marketing platform, TapPoint®, enables brands to connect physical and digital assets via mobile to increase consumer engagement, retail sales and loyalty across a network of high footfall locations.
 

Proxama’s customers deploy our award winning platforms and app technologies in the following ways:  

  • Retail: Retailers use TapPoint® to engage with consumers on mobile in their retail stores, to increase sales, loyalty and to provide an immersive digital shopping experience. 
  • Media Network Owners: Shopping malls, outdoor media owners, airports and stadia owners deploy our mobile proximity network capabilities to unlock new streams of revenue and to add value to their brand partners. 
  • Financial Institutions: Banks and card issuers transition their physical payment card portfolio onto mobile for mobile contactless payments. 

Proxama’s TapPoint® and Digital Enablement Platforms connect existing retail loyalty and payment infrastructure onto mobile. Our amazing partners are retail loyalty providers, point of sale vendors, payment security software specialists, integrators and card schemes.
 

Our heritage

Proxama was founded in 2005 by Dr. Neil Garner, with a belief and vision that mobile phones were not just for retail payments, but also crucial to Value Added Services, to drive commerce for both retailers and banks.

  • Dr Neil Garner led teams working on the first implementations of both MasterCard’s PayPass and American ExpressPay contactless payment technologies. Through this work with the card schemes and technology vendors, Neil became aware of forthcoming NFC technology in 2003-4 that could be used by phones to enable contactless payments.
  • When Proxama was founded in 2005, one of the company’s first projects was to implement a solution to prove contactless card performance in terminals for a major high street bank.
  • From 2006-2010, Proxama worked very closely with MasterCard developing specifications, prototypes, trade show demonstrators enabling the full range of commerce applications on the NFC phones that existed at the time, which were mainly limited production feature phones from Nokia.
  • In parallel, with the MasterCard consulting work, Proxama developed underlying technology platforms to support payments, loyalty & marketing across devices which were early versions of Proxama’s TapPoint® and Digital Enablement technology platforms. These platforms were used to support limited demonstrator and pilot projects for banks, retailers and media owners with the limited handsets that were available.
